Our portable sawmill produces smooth, planer-ready boards, suitable for all applications from crafts to furniture (green wood must be dried before it is used for indoor applications). Cedar Creek Sawmill can cut logs up to
16 feet in length and 36 inches in diameter. The thin bandsaw kerf produces 30% more wood per log than circular sawmills.  We can mill any species of wood, dried or green, to any dimension desired! And we can mill your logs at your site, so they don't have to be hauled to the sawmill.  We can also saw logs that you deliver to our De Soto, Kansas location.

Log Characteristics

To produce the most desirable lumber, logs must be relatively straight and void of knots and branches for the length to be cut. Forks in Walnut and some other woods can produce highly desirable crouch wood containing lots of figure. Crooked logs or logs with unusable sections should be sawed into smaller lengths (minimum of 5 to 6 feet) to produce sawable logs.

There should be no foreign objects (nails, rocks, fence wire, etc.) in the logs.  If hidden nails or wire are found in the log,  they will need to be chain sawn out before lumber milling can continue.
A log should be a minimum of 12 inches in diameter (37 inch circumference) to produce much usable lumber.  Walnut should be 2  inches larger in diameter because the first inch around the outside of the tree is less desirable white wood

All logs must be located in a flat area accessible to a standard truck pickup puling the sawmill.  Each log should be placed parallel to the level sawing site so they can be rolled onto the sawmill log loader.

Logs should be from 5 foot to 16 foot in length.

Most native Kansas and Missouri hardwoods can be sawed into lumber.  Some species are more desirable than others.  Oak, Walnut, Hickory , Maple, Apple, Elm, Soft Maple, Sycamore, Osage Orange (Hedge) and others can be sawed.
